AGFA Benefit: Elliott Kalan Hosts “In the Mouth of Madness”
April 4 @ 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm$10
In a very special Terror Tuesday at Alamo Drafthouse, Original Peach and Mail Song Maestro Elliott Kalan hosts this classic H.P. Lovecraft adaptation in benefit of the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA).
The third and final chapter in John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy (along with THE THING and PRINCE OF DARKNESS), IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS is the only film out of those three that remains divisive among audiences. We think that’s a little unfair, as it could very well be the most genuinely disconcerting movie he made in the 1990s. The film follows the account of former insurance investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) as he weaves a reality-bending, apocalyptic tale that pits him toe-to-to with popular horror novelist Sutter Kane (Jürgen Prochnow) and his latest book, which could very end up destroying the world. Unnerving but fun, this one really captures the atmosphere of mid-90s horror before SCREAM flipped the script two years later. A good pairing with LORD OF ILLUSIONS!
